Celsia, part of Grupo Argos, has successfully launched the first phase of a crucial transmission project on the Colombian Caribbean coast. This initial phase includes the new 220 kV Toluviejo substation and its connection to the Chinú substation through the construction of a 40.9-kilometer transmission line and the installation of 92 energy towers.

Key Highlights:

  • Enhanced Connectivity for Sucre: For the first time, the Sucre department is connected to the 220 kV voltage level of the National Transmission System via the new Toluviejo substation. This allows the regional network operator to link its system, significantly improving the reliability and service quality for the region's customers.
  • Increased Capacity and Flexibility: This infrastructure project alleviates restrictions on the Caribbean coast by increasing the region's transmission capacity, benefiting the entire national electrical system.

Project Progress and Future Plans:

  • Current Status: The project, awarded to Celsia through a UPME call as part of Colombia's Electric Transmission Expansion Plan, is 82% complete. It is slated for full completion by the end of 2024.
  • Next Steps: The second phase involves constructing a 120-kilometer network between the Toluviejo and 220 kV Bolívar substations, including the installation of a new bay for connection.

"We are proud to have successfully completed the first phase of this significant project, enhancing the electrical infrastructure on the Caribbean coast," said Julián Cadavid, Celsia's leader of Transmission and Distribution. "This project ensures a reliable and safe energy supply for Sucre's citizens and facilitates the connection of future renewable energy projects."

Impact and Benefits:

The completion of this project will significantly improve energy reliability and flexibility, supporting Colombia's transition to a more robust and sustainable electrical system.
